Blood Stain Removal

Once you have a bloodstain on fabric it is very difficult to remove it. However, it is not impossible. You can remove a fresh bloodstain from your clothing if you wash it in cold water right away. Once you remove it from the washing machine, if the stain is still there, soak the article of clothing in a mixture of 1 quart of warm water, ½ teaspoon of dishwashing liquid or liquid laundry detergent and 1 tablespoon of ammonia for 15 minutes. You can then brush or scrape the stained area to remove the blood and blot it from time to time using an absorbent pad. Once you have all the blood removed, rinse the article of clothing to remove any traces or ammonia and wash it again in the washing machine.

If you have a bloodstain on silk material, don’t despair. You do need to treat the stain before the blood dries in by sponging it with a damp pad. Work from the middle of the stain toward the edges and make sure you use cold water to dampen the pad. For blood that is still wet, this method should take it out quite easily.

If you have a bloodstain on your marble floor, use cold water to wipe up the stain. However, if you haven’t been able to so this as soon as it happens, you can make a type of poultice by mixing water, powdered detergent and chlorine bleach. Apply a thick coating of the mixture to the stain and cover it with a damp cloth. When the stain has been bleached out of the marble, you should rinse it well and dry it. For blood on a bamboo hardwood floor, add a few drops of ammonia to warm soapy water and brush the stained area with the mixture. Then when the stain is gone rinse the area and dry it with a clean cloth.
